Donald J. Harris has over thirty years of experience representing clients in a wide variety of complex commercial and business disputes involving such issues as breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, tortious interference with contract and economic advantage, breach of covenants not to compete, breach of confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements, unfair and deceptive trade practices, misappropriation of trade secrets, corporate shareholder and limited liability company member rights, and protection of minority shareholder and member rights.

Mr. Harris began his practice in 1988 with Petree, Stockton & Robinson, LLP in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, forerunner to Petree Stockton, LLP and Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton, LLP. While with Petree, Stockton & Robinson in Winston-Salem, Mr. Harris was a part of the Antitrust and Trade Regulation Practice Group, where he concentrated on complex business litigation and unfair competition cases, including trademark, trade dress and copyright infringement. In 1992, Mr. Harris relocated to Raleigh where he assisted the firm to transition its Raleigh litigation practice from insurance defense to complex business and technology litigation.
After becoming a partner at Petree Stockton in 1997, Mr. Harris came to the conclusion that he could assist a wider variety of businesses and individuals in his own practice. He left Kilpatrick Townsend in 1999 and founded Harris & Winfield, LLP, the predecessor to Harris Sarratt & Hodges, LLP.
Mr. Harris is admitted to practice in the State of North Carolina, the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of North Carolina, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Mr. Harris regularly represents clients in the North Carolina Business Court and has appeared in state and federal courts across the United States.
Mr. Harris earned his undergraduate degree in Management Science with a minor in Computer Science from the State University College of Arts and Sciences at Geneseo, New York. He earned his J.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law in 1988.
Mr. Harris enjoys camping, backpacking and kayaking with his four sons: Danny, Mike, Eliot and Peer.
